Butterfly and Moth Update by Ian Rippey
Small Copper: 2 at Killybegs Bog, Ballymena, Co. Antrim, on 14th May (Frank Turtle, I. Millar and M. MIllar) - see http://www.bcni.org.uk/Main.HTM. Probably the same one seen twice at Killard NNR, Ballyhornan, Co. Down, on 15th May (Ian Rippey & others).
Ken Thompson believes he saw a Small Copper in his garden at Tandragee, Co. Armagh, about the week before last, which would be between about 3rd and 9th May; he is sure he saw a Holly Blue there fairly recently. Along with a possible resighting by Miss Lindsey Greeves at Portadown, also Co. Armagh, in late April, this would pre-date the 1st official 2010 record, of 1 seen by Maurice Hughes at Kinarla near Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, on 8th May.
Green Hairstreak: A large total of 31 at Killybegs Bog, Ballymena, Co. Antrim, on 14th May; 8 had been seen there on 11th May (Frank Turtle, I. Millar and M. MIllar); 3 at Aughnadarragh Lake, Saintfield, Co. Down, on 15th May (David Nixon)  - see http://www.bcni.org.uk/Main.HTM. At least 6 at Loughmacrory Nature Reserve, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, on 14th May (Catherine Bertrand). 1 seen by Don Hodgers on 16th May near the pond at Slieve Gullon Forest, County Armagh; 1 had been seen in the Slieve Gullion area on 9th May (Joe devlin), who also reported 1 at Kilfeaghan in the Mourne Mountains, Co. Down, on 8th May along with Clifford Sharpe. 2 at Drumack Road, Rasharkin, Co. Antrim, on 11th May (I. Millar).
Reals Wood White: Seen about 14th May at the edge of Rectory Park Estate, Portadown (Sidney Irwin).

Green Silver-lines: Among various moths trapped on National Moth Night on 15th/16th was a Green Silver-lines at Glenarm, Co. Antrim (Ted Rolston).
Emperor: 1 male at Tyrella Dunes near Downpatrick, Co. Down, on 14th May (Ian Rippey). 1 male at Ballyfotherly Bog, Donaghadee, Co. Down, on 16th May (James O'Neill).
