Bird News Sunday 13th October

A Cackling Canada Goose was with 225 Barnacle Geese at Malin Head, Co Donegal. (Ronan McLaughlan)

Kearney had 4 Wheatear and a Merlin whilst Cloughy had 2 Swallow (James Robinson)

350-400 Whooper Swans were seen at Traad Point Lough Neagh with Mute Swans this morning.  A single Swallow was seen flying over Doss Bay this morning (Ciarán Burns / Seamus Burns)

Kirkiston had a Merlin, at Templecowey a Chiffchaff and 5 Goldcrest and a Whimbrel at Orlock Point. (Richard Weyl)

A Great Skua was off Whiteabbey, Belfast Lough at 18.00 Hrs today (Paul McCullough).

Around Belfast a Spotted Redshank was at Whitehouse Lagoon (Jeff Larkin) and a Jay along Ardenlee Avenue at Cregagh (Nuala Johnson). The Chiffchaff was still singing at Carr's Glen with a Fieldfare and small groups of Redwing noted (Larry Toal). 

On Friday 7 Redwing were between Moy and Dungannon (Darryl McConnell).

A winter plumaged Red-throated Diver is off Seapark, Greenisland in Belfast Lough. (David Stirling).

An unusual inland sighting was an immature Gannet just outside Richhill, Co. Armagh. (Andrew Poots).

The male Long-tailed Duck was still giving good views off the car park at Portballintrae (Simon Morton).
