Bird News for Wednesday 8th September

1 Pectoral Sandpiper (P. McCullough/G.McGeehan) was at the RSPB Harbour Estate Belfast along with 2 Little Stints, 6 Curlew Sandpipers, 4 Ruff, 2 Green Sandpipers, the Pectoral Sandpiper was looked for, but not seen after 3pm.The bird of course could well still be there just remaining elusive, well worth checking tomorrow. Let the blog know if seen by using any of the above contact numbers.

Another 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Tullyhill Co.Down.

6 more Curlew Sandpipers along with 2 Black-necked Grebes and 2 Arctic Terns were at Mullagh Co.Londonderry.(D.Steele)

1 Lapland Bunting (R.Price/M Taylor) along with 3 Whimbrel were at Kearney Point Co.Down.


A good number of birds were at Ramore Head which included, 1 Arctic Skua, 150 Gannet, 3 Manx Shearwater, 80 Kittiwake, 60 Sandwich Tern, 6 Eider, 24 Sandwich Tern were at East Strand including one which had a blue ring over a red one(interesting to know were it came from) R. Hoy.

Another Curlew Sandpiper (very good numbers this year) was on the East Strand Portrush and two Wheatears on the headland.
