Bird News Sunday 13th January

The drake Green-winged Teal was at Barr Hall Bay, Ballyquintin, also present were a female Merlin, a Purple Sandpiper and approximately 50 Tree Sparrows. 5 Sandwich Terns were at Portaferry Marina. (K.Bennett)

The Bittern was showing well at Inch Island Lough, Co. Donegal. The Male Smew was also showing from the causeway (Dermot Breen)

The Ring-billed Gull was still at Groomsport this morning.

A 2nd winter Iceland Gull was at Whitehouse Lagoon.

Between 10 and 12 waxwings in garden at Groomsport this morning.(B.Orr)

2 female Blackcaps were visiting a garden at Chruch Cres. Newtownabbey.(P.Mchaffie)

8 Waxwing were in Ballymena near County Hall at Galgorm (Noel Pottin).

At Strangford Lough 250 Greylag were at Anne's Point and 59 Whooper Swan, a very high count of 65 Grey Plover and a Peregrine at Islandhill (Gerard McGeehan).

Yesterday a first-winter Little Gull was at Briggs Rocks near Groomsport (Colin Guy).

A flock of 200 Golden Plover and Lapwing was near the Belfast side exit of junction 9 of the M1. Waxwings were near the entrance to Greenmount pig farm and a partially leucistic Jackdaw along Park Hall Road in Antrim (Mark Smyth).
