Exciting new volunteer opportunity to help threatened birds across Ireland

Role: Secretary of the Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel  
Location: Work from home (anywhere on the island of Ireland).  
Commitment: 50 days pa.   
When: 1 May 2013 onwards.   
We’re looking for an experienced birdwatcher to gather, interpret and manage rare breeding bird records from across the island of Ireland. Promoting the work of the Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel (IRBBP) and publishing the data collected annually in Irish Birds, this is a great opportunity for someone who has the trust and respect of the birdwatching community and wants to use their skills to support their passion for the conservation of rare breeding birds in Ireland. We are looking for someone with a thorough knowledge of Ireland’s breeding birds and their habits, excellent written skills, proven experience of using spreadsheets and databases, and who enjoys working and communicating with birdwatchers and other naturalists.

The Irish Rare Breeding Birds Panel (IRBBP) aims to secure comprehensive, professional and efficient collation, management, reporting and dissemination of rare breeding bird data for the whole of the island of Ireland. The IRBBP has existed since 1983 and has published its results annually in Irish Birds in recent years. The Panel is made up of representatives from BirdWatch Ireland (BWI), the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS), the Northern Ireland Birdwatchers Association (NIBA) and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
