Bird News Friday 4th September

A juvenile Red-backed Shrike was in scrub on private land in the Millisle area yesterday afternoon. It was looked for this morning without success (Marty Mcclenaghan / Ronnie Snoddy)

The Pectoral Sandpiper and Little Stint were still at Myroe (Jeff Larkin)

A sea watch this morning between 07:30 & 10:00 at Ramore Head, Portrush, Co Antrim, produced a single Wheatear, a Sand Martin, an Arctic Skua and 2 Bonxies. A single Whimbrel was at the barmouth (Kevin Kirkham)

A 3hr seawatch from Fanad Head, Donegal early afternoon had a Feas Petrel, 343 Manx, 38 Sooty Shearwaters, 5 Bonxies, an Arctic Skua and 2 Common Scoters (Chris Ingram).

Belfast WOW reserve had an adult Roseate Tern and a male Ruff. Two White Wagtail were on the open ground formerly known as D3 beside WOW. (Dermot Hughes & John O'Boyle).

A Slavonian Grebe, an adult in faded summer plumage, was on Lough Beg. 3 Ruff and 3 White Wagtails were at Mullagh. (David Steele).

An Arctic Skua and a Great Skua were between Portstewart and Portrush this afternoon. (John Clarke).

The Roseate Tern was still present at Belfast WOW reserve this afternoon. (Stuart McKee).

There were at least 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 3 adults, a 2nd/3rd year and 2 1st years were at Groomsport this afternoon. (N Milligan).

Seawatching at Ramore Head this afternoon had 2 Leach's Petrels, 2 Storm Petrels, 2 Sooty Shearwaters, 5 Great Skuas, 3 Arctic Skuas, a juvenile Mediterranean Gull, 50+ Brent Geese, 2 Great Northern Divers, 16 Arctic Terns, 14 Common Scoter and a Little Egret. (Neal Warnock).

A juvenile Sabine's Gull was at Ballycastle Harbour this evening. (Neal Warnock).
