Bird News Thursday 1st November

A Red Kite was seen from Portstewart Strand, flying east (Richard Donaghey).

Myroe had 1,000 Whoopers, 12 Pink-feet, a Merlin, Ruff, Sparrowhawk, 5 Buzzard and 1,000 Golden Plover. (Gerard McGeehan & Shirley Dunlop).

This morning Loughisland Reavey had 5 Goosander, a male and 4 redheads. This afternoon Bloody Bridge had 17 Great Northern, 2 Black-throated and 15 Red-throated Divers with large numbers of Auks. (Fulton Somerville).

WOW reserve is still damp but needs serious rain. Best today was 113 lapwings. A digger was at Kinnegar straightening and deepening the channel so there was a lot of exposed mud in the lagoon and a deeper pool at the pipe where the river flows in. There were 14 Snipe on the mud and 5 Little Grebe in the pool. (Derek Polley).

Up to 200 Whooper Swans have been roosting in Killough this week, more than twice as many as are usually present in Lecale (Chris Murphy).

A male Blackcap was in bushes near Hillsborough Fort this afternoon. (Dougie Gamble).
