1997 North Foreshore Tip in Belfast was when Northern Ireland's first Thayer's Gull was found, an extremely difficult bird to identify and even to-day the taxonomy of Thayer's Gull is still not certain.

On this date
The 1st March is certainly a memorable date for gull lovers, in 1931 the first Ivory Gull was found, an adult bird seen off Donaghadee and stayed into April,( wouldn't be to many of us around to-day who seen that bird), there has been 2 records since though, one in Bangor in 1978 which was well photographed and one in 1998 at New Forge Lane in Belfast which was only identified at a latter date when photo's of the bird appeared, another bird now would be greatly received by many.
