Bird News Wednesday 18th May

A summer plumaged Slavonian Grebe was at Longfield Point, Co L'derry. (Clive Mellon)

A Quail (see image above) was seen down to 20 feet along a lane at Island Magee (David Galbraith).


A Turtle Dove was at Copeland Bird Observatory. This is the first in 25 years although before that they were almost annual. 3 Whitethroat and a Spotted Flycatcher were also seen. Yesterday up to 3,000 Guillemot/Razorbill an hour were passing (Neville McKee).


Yesterday a Bittern was reported flying north at Killard Point (Patrick Boyle).
