Bird News Saturday 18th January

1st winter male Surf Scoter still 1 mile south of Garron Point, Co Antrim (Neal Warnock)

The drake Ring-necked drake was still at Templewater, Castle Ward, Down. (Keith Bennett)

The hybrid Snow Goose (possibly Snow Goose x Barnacle Goose) was still at Old Church Bay, Islandmagee (Cameron Moore)

The female Goosander was off Glynn Station (Neal Warnock)

South Down today had 2 Goosanders (M/F) at Lough Island Reavy; 10 Long-tailed Duck with the large Scoter flock at Murlough. A Great Northern Diver and 4 Red-throated Diver were also at Murlough. (Keith Bennett)

A Merlin was this afternoon hunting stubble fields beside Shrigley duck pond, Killyleagh (Jason Starbuck)

At Strangford Lough 10 Black-throated Diver (in a tight group close to the shore), 2 Great Northern Diver, an adult Little Gull and a Sandwich Tern were at Ringburr Point. Another 6 Great Northern Diver were at Marlfield (Richard Weyl). 

3 Little Egret were at Pattons Marsh in Newtownards (Garry Wilkinson)

On the Antrim shore of Lough Neagh a Slavonian Grebe was at Selshan Harbour (Nigel Ireland)

The Ivory Gull was still at Tacumshin (George Gordon)
