Bird News Monday 16th January

A Male Goosander was at Waterfoot, an adult Iceland Gull, Garron Point and the Bonaparte's Gull at Ballygally, Co Antrim (Neal Warnock)

Large flock of passerines,120+, at Ballynagross, Ballyalton, Co Down, included 60 Tree Sparrows & 15 Yellowhammers. Reed Buntings, Chaffinches & Greenfinches in same flock. 2 Sandwich Terns were at Mill Quarter Bay and 2 Goosanders ( m & f) and 2 Grey Plovers, along the shore on the Mill Quarter Bay side of Killard Point. Two immature Iceland Gulls were seen at McAuley's Lake, Co Down, this morning (Ron Price / Michael Taylor)
3 Bewick's Swan were with 52 Whooper Swan at Derrytresk on the Tyrone shore of Lough Neagh (George Henderson).
12 Fieldfare and 6 Redwing were at the Moira end of Broad Water (Derek Polley).

The second winter Ring-billed Gull was at Groomsport. 13 Twite were nearby at Sheep Point. One of them was the colour ringed bird from the Mull of Kintyre seen at Whitehead last December (George Gordon).
On the rocks along Portstewart Golf Club were approx 350 Golden Plover also one Purple Sandpiper in a flock of approx 15 Redshank (Geoff McIntyre)
Three Long-eared Owls were seen hunting around the football pitches at the University in Coleraine this evening, also seen were two Woodcock. (John Clarke)
