Bird News Thursday 8th September

The Black Tern is still in Kinnegoe Bay, Oxford Island this morning. (David McCreedy).

Seawatching on Rathlin from 0800-0930 had an adult Sabine's Gull, a juvenile Little Gull, 10 Sooty Shearwaters, 1 Arctic Skua, 2 Arctic Terns, a Merlin and a Minke Whale. The Curlew Sandpiper was still present at Mill Bay. (Ric Else)

The Barmouth had an adult Curlew Sand, a Little stint, 4 Med gulls, 3 Grey plover and a Ruff (Theo Campbell). Early afternoon there were 13 Curlew Sandpipers and 3 Little Stints (John Spottiswood)

8 Curlew Sandpiper were on the Roe Estuary. There was no sign of the Buff-breasted Sandpiper (Ian Young / Tony Dodds)

7 Purple Sandpipers were on rocks off Lansdowne Crescent, Portrush this morning (Juliet Fleming)

The Golden Eagle was seen again on Rathlin (Ric Else)

2 Ruff were off the Floodgates, Newtownards (Ian Young)

8 Curlew Sandpiper were at RSPB WoW today (Daniel Newton / Stephen Maxwell) A male Ruff was also present (Tom Ennis)

A Curlew Sandpiper was at Carnlough Bay at the east end of the beach. A Whimbrel was also at Waterfoot (Dave O’Hara)

Grey Point this evening had 3 adult Sabine Gulls which flew into Belfast Lough, 1 Bonxie and at least 2 Arctic Skua (Bob Watts / Wilton Farrelly)

2 Orca were off the north side of Rathlin heading east at 3:30pm (Rebecca Tanner \ Ric Else)
