Bird News Thursday 16th March

Yesterday a juvenile Dark-bellied Brent was still at Killough Harbour (Chris Murphy)

A new immature White-tailed Eagle was seen again on Rathlin this morning (Hazel Watson)

The drake Smew was still at Todd’s Corner, Ardmore, Lough Neagh. The 7 Russian-Whitefronts and 2 Barnacle Geese are still at Reedy Flats (Ed O’Hara)

A Red Kite was seen near Larchfield, Co Down this afternoon (Stephen Bingham)

A Chiffchaff was at Belfast Waterworks (Dot Blakely)

A White-railed Eagle was at Loughareema (Vanishing Lake) near Ballycastle (Charles Stewart) - This is probably the bird seen on Rathlin earlier this week.

The Waxwings are still in Ward Park, Bangor.

There has been an influx of Alpine Swifts in to southern Ireland. It is worthwhile keeping an eye out for one, particularly at any coastal location!
